The Harbour Bodega “The Bodega” (formerly Harbour Market) is a Specialty Food Store, Gourmet Deli with Homemade Food Offerings for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Additionally, The Bodega has a full line of Beer, Wine, Liquor, Water, and Soft Drinks. Opened in July 2021, The Bodega is a welcome addition to Main Street on Beaver Island. Located across from the Boat Dock, The Bodega is open Year Round. The Bodega Buddies, are ready to help you choose what to eat, what to drink, and because our concept is Grab N Go, you will be in and out of the store expeditiously so you can enjoy your day on The Emerald Isle, Beaver Island. Island residents can rely on the Bodega for delicious and healthy breakfast, lunch, and dinners, either dine in or meals on wheels through our amazing Commission on Aging Program.

🌶️🇲🇽 it’s been a long hot day in the Bodega for Vicky, Hilary, MJ and Katie preparing for tonight’s cooking class.
We roasted poblanos, stewed tomatillos, rolled enchiladas (for the 3rd time this week) and hung our brightest and happiest party decor yet! 🪅

Checking in on our Pineapple Tepache for Mexican cooking class on Monday!
Day 2 and we have bubbles! Fermentation is taking place…. natural yeast living on the pineapple are jump starting the fermentation process and converting the Piloncilo (Mexican raw sugar).
Pineapple contains large amounts of bromelian, an enzyme with anti-inflammatory properties 💪🏼
Once finished, Tepache contains probiotics, which help keep good bacteria in your gut healthy, help with digestion and support your immune system. The fermentation process also boosts the vitamin content of Tepache, so it offers more nutritional benefits than just eating a ripe pineapple.
Did you know the science of fermentation is known as Zymology… we’re crazy about it over here, for all the health benefits it brings and we hope you try making your own fermented drinks at home too! ...

In our final class before we transition over to Foraging Classes with Gina for the Summer, we are offering a Traditional Mexican Fiesta 🇲🇽
- Be welcomed into our vibrant cooking setting with housemade Tepache (a fermented Pineapple drink) and sparkling mocktail.
- Learn about the origins of this Mayan Ceremonial drink while you acquaint yourself with your fellow compañeros.
- Don your chef’s apron as we teach you step by step how to prepare Ceviche, the classic Latin American Dish of raw fish and seafood "cooked" in the acid of a citrus marinade.
- In between courses our inhouse cocktail enthusiast, Dan Feldpausch will provide a tequila tasting and oral presentation on each hand selected tequila.
- "Enchilada Stations" will allow you to prepare your own Enchiladas De Jocoque (Chicken or Vegetarian)
- While your Enchilada are cooking you will roll up your sleeves once more to prepare a fresh, vibrant salsa.
- Take your seats and feast on your dishes with a paired tequila cocktail and dessert.
- A 3-hour culinary journey into Traditional Mexican Cuisine.
- Ingredient, cooking utensils, tools, and aprons provided.
- 3 course sit down meal with signature cocktail.
- A full color Cooking Guide with recipes of all our dishes.
- Tea, coffee, mocktail, water.
Class will take place on Monday May 8th promptly at 6pm until 9pm and places are limited to 18 (only 9 places remain) Ticket price is $65 and can be paid on the evening.
PLEASE NOTE: this is a hands-on class. Students will be making 3 dishes at their own "station" before sitting down to eat as a group. All ingredients will be prepared ahead of time.

Fresh from her culinary cooking adventure to Japan, Vicky, is excited to share her experiences and knowledge of these traditional Japanese cooking methods.

Spring has Sprung ☘️🌷and we just realized our new remodel couldn’t look more Spring like if we’d tried! It’s been a looooong Winter on the Island!
